This was my second read through of Bob Burg and John David Mann’s The Go-Giver. It’s a short read and well worth the time. It’s written with stories as the backdrop to illustrate the five laws of stratospheric wealth, similar to the classic, The Richest Man in Babylon.
So what do you need to be super duper successful?
- The Law of Value: Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.
- Focus on giving, giving, and giving. Provide value to the people around you and in every interaction.
- The Law of Compensation: Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.
- I think this law really stuck out to me. It does follow that you may be providing a lot of value but getting paid “not so well” because you’re not affecting as many people.
- You have direct influence over how much you make in money. Serve more people and you’ll be paid more. It’s that simple.
- I love the stories of teachers that go from adding big value to their classrooms to setting up YouTube channels (or other programs) to provide that same value to the masses… and get paid.
- The Law of Influence: Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.
- Get out of the mindset of “50-50” or “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours”
- Stop keeping score with your relationships!
- The Law of Authenticity: The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.
- Honestly sounds cliche but just be yourself.
- The Law of Receptivity: The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.
- If you don’t let yourself receive, you’re refusing the gifts of others
- This seems backwards but “the world was designed with a sense of humor”
